Urgent passport travel generally means documented international departure within about 14 days, or a documented life-or-death emergency. Wanting a passport quickly is not the same as qualifying for urgent handling.
Documented, not intended
The qualifying factor is documentation. A booked itinerary, a paid cruise, or hospital documentation carries weight. A plan to book once the passport arrives generally does not.
Windows that matter
Timing is counted from your actual departure, including red-eye flights.
- Within 72 hours: emergency handling territory
- 3-14 days: the core urgent window
- 15+ days: expedited processing is usually appropriate
